Hellapeño - (Capsicum Annuum)
The Hellapeno is one of the hotter Jalapeno varieties we have ever tried. They are miniature Jalapeno type peppers that get about 1.5 to 2 inches in length and a half inch wide. Very thick walled and juicy. They start off green and ripen to a dark purple and then finally to a deep blood red. Their flavor is amazing! It starts with a sweet complex nuttiness before the heat starts setting in. The burn is a slow building and long lasting heat. Not nearly as strong as a Habanero but hotter than most Jalapenos. The plant this showed up on this year was also the largest pepper plant we have ever grown. It was 8 feet tall and wide and the trunk was at least 2.5 to 3 inches wide. At it's peak it had over 350 peppers at one time so a very heavy producer. Great for salsas and adding great heat and flavor to any dish.
