Bryans Blood Rainbow – (Capsicum annuum)
This eye-catching variety comes from a cross of Scarlett’s Chili and Poblano, originally developed by breeder Eric Knight with an emphasis on ornamental beauty and edible versatility. Later selections by growers Rich Blood and Bryan Townshend refined it into the vibrant “Rainbow” line, known for its striking foliage and uniquely colored pods. Leaves often show bold variegation, while the peppers themselves shift through an ever-changing display—starting green or purple, flashing stripes and multicolored patterns, then finally ripening to solid red.
Pods are roughly jalapeño-sized with thin to medium walls, offering a mild to moderate heat and a pleasant, slightly fruity flavor that works well for cooking, stuffing, or fresh use. Plants can reach impressive heights with strong yields, making them both a standout ornamental and a practical culinary pepper. A beautiful conversation piece in the garden—yet still right at home in the kitchen.
Heat level: 5,000 (SHU's) – Mild.
Flavor: Slightly Fruity & Earthy.
