Red Savina - (Capsicum Chinense)
The Red Savina was once the hottest pepper in the world at 577k shu's but lost its crown to the Ghost Pepper in 2007. Until 2011, it was protected by the U.S. Plant Variety Protection Act. They ripen from green to red and measure 1.5 to 2 inches and typically a round slightly wrinkled lantern shape. They are an extremely hot habanero with a great sweet flavor.
Heat level: 400k - 577k (SHU) Scoville Heat Units – Very Hot
Flavor: Sweet and Fruity
I grew three of these plants from seeds purchased from Bohica. The seeds germinated quickly and the plants are doing great. They are prolific producers of fruit, but unfortunately the pods are fairly small, much smaller than I had anticipated. The pods I get are range from the the size of a dime to the size of a quarter. Due to the small size, I doubt that I will grow them again. Instead, I will stick with the Caribbean Red habaneros, which are much larger.
